Variation in incubation length and hatching asynchrony in Eastern Kingbirds: Weather eclipses female effects

چکیده
Abstract Incubation length and hatching asynchrony are integral elements of the evolved reproductive strategies birds. We examined intra- interpopulation variation in both traits for Eastern Kingbird (Tyrannus tyrannus) populations from New York (NY), Kansas (KS), Oregon (OR) found that incubation were not repeatable among females, after controlling a trait, clutch size. Instead, size influenced by ambient temperature precipitation. exhibited same median (15 days) range (13–17 at all sites. Model selection results indicated periods smallest largest clutches longer NY than KS when rain was frequent throughout incubation, replacement nests, likely temperatures low during egg-laying. Full usually required 2 days (but up to 3), with synchronous associated small sizes, short periods, egg-laying period, first half incubation. Nestling starvation uncommon (5–9% nestlings monitored) greater asynchrony. These indicate while size, female contributed Kingbirds, weather source variation, especially length.

Plasma corticosterone in American kestrel siblings: effects of age, hatching order, and hatching asynchrony.
Although it is well documented that hatching asynchrony in birds can lead to competitive and developmental hierarchies, potentially greatly affecting growth and survival of nestlings, hatching asynchrony may also precipitate modulations in neuroendocrine development or function. Here we examine sibling variation in adrenocortical function in postnatally developing, asynchronously hatching Ameri...
متن کامل: metadiscourse in introduction sections of applied linguistics and physics research articles: exploring variation in frequency and type
abstract in written mode of language, metadiscourse markers are used commonly to help writers in general and academic writers in particular to produce coherent and professional texts. the purpose of the present study was to compare introduction sections of applied linguistics and physics articles regarding their use of interactive and interactional metadiscourse markers based on the model pro...

Temperature effects on ectotherms are widely studied particularly in insects. However, the life-history effects of temperature experienced during a window of embryonic development, that is egg stage, have rarely been considered. We simulated fluctuating temperatures and examined how this affects the operational sex ratio (OSR) of hatching as well as nymph and adult fitness in a leafhopper, Scap...
متن کاملon translation of politeness strategies in dialogues involving female characters in translations and retranslations of novels translated before and after the islamic revolution of iran and their effects on the image of women: a polysystem theory approach
abstract reception environment has considerable effects on accepting a translation. as the expectations of a target culture and its values and needs change throughout history, its criteria for accepting a translation or rejecting it will change accordingly (gentzler, 2001). the expectations of iran, as the reception environment in the present study, have changed after the islamic revolution. i...
